Federal Skilled Trade Program

Are you a skilled tradesperson dreaming of a new life in Canada? The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) might just be your ticket to that dream! This program is a fantastic opportunity for experienced tradespeople to gain permanent residency in Canada. Let's dive into everything you need to know about the FSTP, from eligibility to the application process.

Federal Skilled Trade Program

The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) is one of Canada's primary immigration pathways. It is designed for skilled tradespeople and began as part of the Express Entry program. This targets labor market shortages by attracting skilled tradespeople from around the globe. Whether you’re an electrician, a plumber, or a chef, this program could be your gateway to living and working in Canada. However, to be eligible for this program, your profile must be ranked in the Express Entry pool with a required CRS score, unlike the Federal Skilled Worker Program or other Express Entry pathways.

What eligibility criteria must I fulfil to apply under the Federal Skilled Trade Program?

To qualify, you must meet all the minimum requirements for FSTP.

Skilled Trade Occupations

To qualify for the FSTP, you must have experience in a skilled trade listed under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. These trades are divided into major groups such as

You need at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount in part-time work) in a skilled trade within the five years before applying. This experience must be in the same trade you’re being nominated for.

Language tests are valid for two years from the date of the result and should be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence.
