What are the eligibility criteria to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program

There are various factors that determine your eligibility criteria for FSWP program.

Applicants for the Federal Skilled Worker Program should consider their age. The minimum age is 21 and points are given up to age 50. Those aged 18 to 35 get the most points, while points decrease for older applicants. Being in the ideal age range increases the chances of being selected in the express entry pool.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in either English or French by taking an approved language test. For FSWP, a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark Level 7 (CLB 7) is required. However, achieving a higher score will increase your chances of success.

How to apply for Canada FSW Program ?

To become a Permanent Resident (PR) in Canada, it is important to confirm your eligibility and successfully complete the application process. Obtaining your PR card is a significant step towards your immigration goals.
Check your eligibility

Please ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for the program with regard to work experience, language proficiency, and education, based on the eligibility criteria. Additionally, kindly verify your score on the FSW points grid.

  1. Ensure a valid passport with accurate personal information and a valid expiration date.
  2. For education that has been accomplished outside Canada, it is necessary to obtain an Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA).
  3. To create your profile, provide recent test results from an approved language test such as IELTS, PTE (Pearson test of english) CELPIP, TEF or TCF. Proficiency in both English and French can earn additional points.

Please complete this step on the IRCC website. Certain personal information must be self-declared, such as your work history, while other information requires accompanying documents from the previous step. Thank you for your cooperation.

If your CRS score is below the cut-off required to receive an invitation to apply, consult our guide on how to improve your CRS score.

One popular method of increasing your CRS score is to re-take your language tests. If your scores could be improved, it may be worthwhile to take some time to study and then sit the exam again.

Upon receiving an Invitation to Apply from IRCC after a draw, you will have the opportunity to submit a complete Permanent Residence application within 60 days. If you have already received an ITA, then take assistance for applying for Canada PR.

Federal Skilled Worker applicants must have a medical examination with an IRCC-recognized panel physician and obtain police background checks for any country where they lived for at least six months since turning 18. The e-application should also include detailed work reference letters from previous employers and must be submitted within 60 days of receiving an ITA.

Approximately 80% of applications submitted through the Federal Skilled Worker Program are processed within a timeframe of less than six months. Upon approval, the individual will receive a confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) document. This document will be signed and dated by an officer at a Canadian port of entry or at an IRCC office upon grant of permanent residence.

Once you have your confirmation of status, you may then apply for your PR card. If you travel outside Canada, you may use this card as proof of your status in Canada.
