Express entry Invitation to apply

Once you enter the express entry pool, you significantly increase your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for the immigration programs that match your qualifications and preferences. This means that you could soon be on your way to achieving your dream of becoming a Canadian permanent resident and enjoying all the benefits that come with it.

What does Invitation to Apply (ITA) mean?

The ITA is an automatically generated response for Express Entry applicants who have expressed their interest and created a profile in the Express Entry pool to immigrate to Canada. The ITA is issued to candidates who rank the highest in a round of invitations, based on their score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).Upon selection of their profile for one or more immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class, the Canadian government sends an invitation to apply for permanent residency through e-APR (electronic application for permanent residence).

How to get an ITA for Express entry program?

Meet eligibility criteria for one of three immigration programs under Express Entry to obtain ITA.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

The FSWP is a part of Canada’s Express Entry system, designed to attract skilled workers globally. It enables eligible candidates to apply for permanent residency in Canada, based on work experience, education, and language skills. Candidates are ranked based on points, and those with the highest scores are invited to apply. The FSWP brings in skilled workers to fill job gaps and boost the economy.

How much time does it take to get an ITA (Invitation to apply) ?

Your chance of receiving an ITA depends on your CRS score. If it meets the threshold for the Invitation rounds draw (which occurs once every 2 weeks), you will receive an ITA. Some people receive an ITA within hours of submitting their express entry profile. If your CRS score matches the upcoming draw, you will receive an ITA immediately. If you are selected by a province, your CRS score will gain 600 points, and your ITA will be expedited. However, if your CRS score is below the threshold and you do not improve it, it may remain in the system until it expires a year from the registration date.

Check & improve CRS score

If your CRS score is below the cut-off required to receive an invitation to apply, consult our guide on how to improve your CRS score. One popular method of increasing your CRS score is to re-take your language tests. If your scores could be improved, it may be worthwhile to take some time to study and then sit the exam again.

What to do if you get an ITA ?

If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you are granted a period of 60 calendar days during which you can either accept and apply for permanent residency or decline it.

When you accept an ITA

Make sure you submit all the required documents along with your Canadian PR Visa application. It is important to apply under the specified ITA class, even if you are eligible for multiple classes.

When you Decline an ITA

If you fail to apply within 60 days of receiving the ITA or no longer meet eligibility requirements, your profile will remain active in the pool until the end of its validity period. You will be considered for future invitations as long as you continue to meet the MEC.

Respond to an ITA

If an APR (application for permanent residence) isn't submitted within 60 days of receiving the ITA (or declined formally), the ITA will expire and the candidate will be removed from the Express Entry pool. To re-enter, a new profile must be submitted and assessed for MEC.

What if my profile changes after receiving my ITA?

Applicants must maintain their eligibility for permanent residency until their electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) is filed to ensure a successful outcome.
